Devananda would be arrested if he tries to enter Indian waters

A leading lawyer in Tamil Nadu has warned Minister and the EPDP leader Douglas Devananda that he would be arrested if he tries to enter Indian waters protesting against the infiltration of Indian fishermen.

A few days ago the EPDP leader and Minister Douglas Devananda announced at a press briefing in Jaffna that he would sail with five thousand Jaffna fishermen into the Indian waters to protest against the infiltrations of the Indian fishermen into the Northern waters.

Therefore, in response to Minister Devananda, a leading lawyer in Tamil Nadu Puhalenthi has warned, the moment Devananda enters the Indian waters any citizen from Tamil Nadu could arrest him and hand him over to the law enforcement officials.” Minister Devananda is wanted in connection with a murder in Tamil Nadu. He is wanted in connection with a shooting incident in Choolaimedu Tamil Nadu in 1986 where he was responsible for gunning down a person. That time he was an EPRLF cadre,” the lawyer said.

He also added a month ago he sought court action in Tamil Nadu to bring down Devananda to Tamil Nadu with the  assistance of Interpol.

So, Devananda cannot simply cross the maritime borders of India with his five thousand men to stage a protest, lawyer Puhalenthi said.
