Indian government asked to allocate houses to Muslims displaced from Sri Lanka's North

A Western Provincial Councilor has handed a written request to the Indian High Commission in Colombo seeking the allocation of Indian funded houses in the North to the Muslims displaced from the North by the Tamil Tiger terrorists.

Western Provincial Councilor Arshad Nizamdeen has requested that houses be allocated to Muslims displaced from Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Vavuniya from the 50,000 Indian funded houses being built in the North.

The letter addressed to Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has noted that nearly 100,000 Muslims had been evicted from the North by the LTTE during the period of the conflict.

He has stated that most of the evicted Muslims were from low-income settlements.

He has pointed out that these evicted Muslims were facing many hardships without even a proper house. According to Nizamdeen, the Indian government needs to consider the plight of the Muslims displaced due to the war as well.
