Rajabdeen has noted that it was the opinion of the majority of Muslim nationals that SLMC should contest independently for the Eastern Province.
The National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and former parliamentarian Shafeek Rajabdeen announced today that he would contest as the Chief Minister candidate for the Eastern Provincial Council at the provincial council election to be held soon.
He has told a local radio station that the SLMC aims to get the Chief Minister post of the Eastern Provincial Council to the party.
Rajabdeen has noted that it was the opinion of the majority of Muslim nationals that SLMC should contest independently for the Eastern Province.
However, he has said that the SLMC was ready to ally with other parties if the Chief Minister candidacy is offered to the SLMC.
The majority of the population of Sri Lanka's Eastern Province is Muslims.
