Two hundred and ten Tiger suspects, remanded at the Vavuniya prison yesterday launched a hunger strike after Anandarasa Saravanabhavan, a key member of the now defunct LTTE, was transferred to the Anuradhapura Prison.
They vowed to continue with the hunger strike until the former LTTE combatant was brought back to the Vavuniya Prison.
Saravanabhavan was arrested a few months ago in connection with an explosion at the Wilpattu National Park. The police said that the suspect been kept at the Boossa detention facility and later transferred to Vavuniya.
