Seven persons, including two ruling local government UPFA members have been arrested in connection with the rape of two teenage girls.
The police said that Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Saruwaliyanage (48) was among the arrested and was remanded till July 16 after he pleaded guilty to raping a 13-year-old when he was produced before the Matara Magistrate Court yesterday.
The child had also been raped by two others. They too pleaded guilty and were remanded.
The child was handed over to the Child Protection Bureau by the Women and Children Bureau of the Matara Police pending further investigations.
Meanwhile am UPFA member of the Tangalle Muncipal Council, too, surrender along with three others for raping another 13-year-old girl.
