Main opposition of Sri Lanka complains of ruling party violating election laws

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has accused the governing party of violating election laws.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the media that the government has commenced violating election laws in its provincial election campaigns even before the handing of nominations.

According to Attanayake, the governing party was abusing state property in its election campaign and public monies are wasted on such publicity.

He has added that jobs are being given and equipment is also distributed among people to win votes.

Attanayake has called on the Elections Commissioner to take action against the violation of elections or stop the elections.
