‘Julampitiye Amare’ is also the chief suspect in the recent attack on a JVP meeting at Katuwana, where two people were shot dead.
Geeganagamage Amarasiri, alias ‘Julampitiye Amare’, had his bail cancelled yesterday when he was produced before the Tangalle High Court over three cases of attempted murder in 1997 or on a date close to it, in the Middeniya and Weeraketiya police areas.
High Court Judge Lalith Wijesekera also remanded him till August 02.

Seven sureties. who had signed Amare’s bail bond. were severely warned by the High Court Judge and discharged from the bond. Amare had been a fugitive from justice for some time, till he appeared in a case soon after the JVP accused him of being behind the attack.
Attorney-at-law Nishantha Sandaharana appeared on behalf of Amarasiri.
He was produced in Court under heavy guard.
