Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told that Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeratne would be arrested soon.
Controversial Minister Mervyn Silva’s son, Malaka, wanted by the police over last Sunday’s assault on two Army officers, was seen in public yesterday, but the police did not arrest him.
Malaka along with his father went to the Kelaniya temple to pay homage to the Sacred Kapilawasthu Relics and photographs of the duo were immediately flashed on a number of websites. The Island staff photographer, too, was well positioned to catch them on film.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told The Island that Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeratne would be arrested soon.
When asked whether the police he was aware that Malaka was at the exposition of the Kapilawasttu Relics at Kelaniya, the SSP said that he was not. However, he and Wijeratne along with the other five suspects would be arrested soon, he said.
He told The Island that the Slave Island police had deployed two teams immediately to nab the main suspects.
According to the detailed statement given by the victims, they had been assaulted by only the two suspects. Therefore, the police would nab the two suspects first and then the others later, the SSP said.
