The Navy intercepted two multi-day fishing trawlers 20 nautical miles off Chilaw and arrested the group of illegal migrants in the two trawlers.

Sri Lanka Navy Thursday arrested another 86 illegal migrants headed for Australia from the north western shores and handed them over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations.
 
The Navy intercepted two multi-day fishing trawlers 20 nautical miles off Chilaw and arrested the group of illegal migrants in the two trawlers.
 
There were 67 persons including 58 Tamils and 9 Sinhalese on board and the other trawler had 19 persons including 14 Tamils and 05 Sinhalese on board.
 
The arrested migrants, 79 men, 2 women, 2 boys and 3 girls were residents of Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Chilaw, Mannar, Negombo and Anamaduwa.
 
All illegal migrants have been brought to Modara Fisheries Harbor to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
