Forces trying to Sabotage the Protest Meeting against Land Grab

 

 
A massive attention catching protest meeting is to take place today in the Mullaitivu town against the land grabbing acts of the army in the Keppaapulavu area and to urge resettlement. But the forces have started threatening the people from taking part in the meeting to be held today.
 
The chairman of the particular village development society, who had received a death threat, is on a house to house visit and demands the public from taking part in the meeting.
 
Meanwhile the Divisional Secretariat is spreading a rumor that action has been taken to resettle the displaced people of Koppaappulavu in their own places. It has come to know that this initiative by the Divisional Secretariat has been taken on the orders from the forces sector.
 
The army has gobbled 2500 acres of land including the village of Koppaapulavu, and more than 200 families from this area are staying with their friends and relatives and around 50 of those families are put up at the temporary camp in Vavuniya. The particular attention catching meeting that is to take place today is to urge the authorities concerned to take action to resettle these people.
 
Meanwhile the Divisional secretariat has spread a rumor that the people of Keppaapulavu are to be resettled today and in their own places. This initiative has been taken to show the UN human rights representatives and other International dignitaries who are now in Sri Lanka that all camps in Sri Lanka have now been closed. Just by closing down the Vavuniya camp the forces sector wants to give an impression that all camps have been closed, to the UN representatives and to the other International dignitaries, while some families from Koppaapulavu are still languish in the camp.
 
On the other hand pass permission for the people in the camps to go out has been refused, in order to stop the people from joining the protest meeting today. Meanwhile people who have been brought for resettlement are also kept at the Vattraappalai School.
