Buddha statue has been illegally opened at Mullaitivu while the case is pending at the Court -Reporter for Global Tamil News-

Buddha statue erected illegally at the premises of Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar temple in Naayaru has been illegally opened with the assistances of police and the Department of Archaeology while the case with regard to is still pending at the Court.

The Buddhist monk, who has been taking forward the activities of setting up this Buddhist temple, has opened the Buddha statue while the people has been expecting for the court order with regard to the Buddhist temple which was being built at the place to where the Buddhism has no connection.

This intransigent attitude of this monk has made the people of this area very much frustrated and sad. When the people of this area went the Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar temple on 14th of this month for celebrating Pongal, the monk confronted with the people.  Following this confrontation, a case has been filed by the Mullaitivu Police.

Subsequently, the Court summoned those who were engaged in this confrontation on 29th of this month. However, realizing the urgent situation, temple administrators and one of the co-chairs of the Tamil Legacy Forum filed a petition to take this issue at court yesterday. Thus, the case has been taken to hearing yesterday.

Those who attended to the Court on behalf of the people of the village produced the information received via Right To Info Act stating that building the Buddhist temple at this particular place is illegal. Consequently, this case became significantly important. In addition, it has been ordered that the monk would be appeared before the Court on 24th of this month. Meanwhile, Buddha statue erected illegally at the premises of Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar temple in Naayaru has been illegally opened with the assistances of police and the Department of Archaeology. Consequently, the people of this area became frustrated.

In the meantime, when the NPC councilor T. Raviharan, who rushed to the scene, was  seeing the situation, the Buddhist monks and those who came from the South acted in the intimidating way.

In addition, the reporters who went to collect information have also been intimidated.
