Commemoration of Lt.Col. Thiyaki Thileepan, who sacrificed his life by staging fast unto death against the Indian Peace Keeping Force, has begun yesterday. He had been staging huger protest for 12 days from 1987.09.15 to 1987.09.26. These days are marked as the days to commemorate him.
Commemorative events have been organized at Nallur yesterday. The events started with the lighting of Memorial flame.
Permission to commemorate Lt.Col. Thiyaki Thileepan was given in 2016 though such permission was denied till that since 2009. It is noteworthy that Jaffna Municipal Council has been making attempts to renovate the monument there.
