Curfew extended for six districts

The Police curfew imposed in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Puttalam, Kandy and Jaffna Districts has been extended until further notice.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) said the Police curfew imposed in the other districts, which was reimposed at 02.00 p.m. today, will remain in effect until 06.00 a.m. on 01 April.

The PMD said movements between Districts during curfew hours, other than for essential services, has been prohibited, adding that legal action will be taken against those violating the curfew.

An islandwide police curfew was imposed from 20 March to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

Deputy Inspector of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said over 7000 persons have been arrested so far for violating the curfew.

He added that over 1700 vehicles have also been taken into Police custody during this period.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said the number of patients infected with the coronavirus in Sri Lanka rose to 122 today.
