Gazette notification to convene new Parliament on the 20th issued

An Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued by the President to convene the inaugural session of the 9th Parliament where the elected members of the General Assembly will meet.

The President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has summoned the Parliament to meet in the Chamber of Parliament in Sri Jayewardenepura on the 20th August at 9.30 am, according to the special gazette notification.

The President has summoned the new parliament under the powers vested in him by the Article 70 of the Constitution.

“KNOW YE, that by virtue of the powers vested in me by Article 70 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President, do by this Proclamation summon Parliament to meet in the Chamber of Parliament, Sri Jayawardenepura, on the Twentieth day of August, Two Thousand and Twenty at 09.30 a.m.,” gazette notification said.
