Government ready to face another no-confidence vote

by editorenglish

The Government today urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to set dates to debate and conduct a fresh vote on a no-confidence motion on the cabinet of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that the Government is prepared to face a no-confidence motion in Parliament if it is presented and voted on the right way.

He said that if Rajapaksa loses the no-confidence vote the right way he will then take the next step.

Abeywardena said the Government is not prepared to face a no-confidence vote done unconstitutionally.

The Government has refused to accept the outcome of two no-confidence votes conducted in Parliament this week, both which it lost.
