In a strange twist of events, Ministers Johnston Fernando and Indika Bandaranaike, who joined the ruling UPFA from the UNP, ceased to hold their MP posts from yesterday in the reconvened Parliament since they had withdrawn a Supreme Court case challenging their expulsion from the UNP.

JVP Goes To Court Against Arbitrary Take Over Of Tissa PS

A petition was filed with the Supreme Court yesterday (9) by a group of people including JVP Member of Parliament for Tissamaharama Nihal Galappaththi moving Court to nullify the suspension of the Pradeshiya Sabha by the Chief Minister of the Southern Provincial Council. Lawyers Manjula Balasuriya and Sunil Watagala filed the petition on behalf of the petitioners.

Fonseka to face more than Five charges

Former Army Commander and Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka is to be brought before a court martial shortly on more than five charges under the Army Act, the army announced yesterday. “The summary of evidence over charges brought against retired General Fonseka, made in compliance with provisions of the Army Act was completed and handed over to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya over the weekend,” military Spokesman Prasad Samarasingha told.
