Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake was named as the presidential candidate for the forthcoming presidential election at the National People’s Power rally held at the Galle Face Green last evening.

The JVP led National People’s Power (NPP) movement which named as ‘Peraliye Maha Raliya’ was held last evening with the participation of thousands of supporters.

The JVP is nominating a presidential candidate of their own after a lapse of 20 years. Nandana Gunathilake of the JVP contested the presidential polls in 1999 and was placed third in that election.

Addressing the gathering JVP leader Dissanayake said Sri Lanka will be converted to a proud and unshaken country in the world. He invited capable resource persons, who love the country to join its effort to drive the country to this target.

Dissanayake while thanking NPP to nominate him as the presidential candidate said that he never let down the aspirations of the people and the NPP members who placed trust on him.

“I dare say that I never let down the trust you placed on me,” he stressed.

He further said that this struggle to create a better future for people will have a winning end. Speaking on the presidential election he said that there are two ways ahead of people of the country. Accordingly there are two alternatives as the old traditional and out-dated way and the other is being opened for people. This is the road to prosperity, he said. He invited the entire nation to unite and rise to achieve victories.
