Land surveying activities with the intention of setting up a permanent Navy Camp has been halted. -Reporter for Global Tamil News-

Land surveying activities with the intention of seizing the 18 acres of land belonging to the people in order to set up a permanent Navy Camp has been halted following the fierce opposition of the land owners and the people at Mandaitivu in Jaffna.

This protest has been staged in front of the Mandaitivu East Amman Temple yesterday (Thursday) at 9 AM.

The occupying Sri Lankan Navy who has been occupying the Mandaitivu East which is come under the Velanai Divisional Secretariat set up a Navy Camp after appropriating 18 acres of lands belonging to 11 land owners.

Occupying Sri Lankan Navy is in an attempt to permanently seize these lands to set up a permanent Navy Camp there. As the first step, the Navy has been making attempt of seizing these lands legally.

Thus, the land owners were informed in written by the Land Surveying Department stating that the land surveying activities would be done for the acquisition of those lands.

Land owners, people and the public organizations fiercely opposed this attempt and ultimately halted it.

Land surveying officers left from there without measuring those lands following the fierce opposition of the people of that area.
