Foreign Relations Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that legal action will be taken immediately against the cyber attackers who defaced the websites of the Ministry of Public Administration and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.

In a special statement to the media, the Minister said as a responsible government, the government will take all measures to safeguard the rights of the people and added that the public should have the right to access information and those who conspire to attack that right will be brought to justice as soon as possible

The websites of the Ministry of Public Administration and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) have been defaced by a group called “Tamil Eelam Cyber Force”.

It has been revealed that the cyber-attack was carried out by a group of pro-LTTE members living abroad.

Both state institutions have informed the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team and an investigation is already underway.

However, the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team | Coordination Centre (CERT|CC) confirming that a couple of official websites in Sri Lanka have been defaced by a group of activists said the Information Security Engineers at CERT had rectified the websites within an hour and emphasized that no data breach has occurred in the attempt.
