The new cabinet will take oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat at 10 am today.

The ministers who were to be sworn in today have been asked to come to the Presidential Secretariat at 9.30 am today.

High level sources in the government have affirmed that there will be significant changes in the subjects of the current ministers and the United National Party Assistant Leader and former minister Ravi Karunanayake will also be given a ministerial post.

All the UNP ministers will be sworn in as well as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) ministers except the 16 SLFP ministers who resigned from the government after voting for the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, sources said.

In addition, there will be new faces appointed as deputy ministers.

The weekly cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesdays under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. Accordingly, the cabinet meeting will be held this week with the new cabinet tomorrow.

The government earlier said that the new Cabinet will be appointed on a scientific basis.

Meanwhile, government sources say that there were 47 cabinet ministers in the unity government and that would be reduced to 42.
