Northern Province Governor Dr. Suren Raghavan postponed an event which was to be held in Chavakachcheri after a tense situation arose today.

Health Service Assistants staged a protest at the Chavakachcheri Urban Council yesterday demanding that they be given appointment letters.

The protesters alleged that there were some discrepancies when issuing appointment letters.

An event was to be held at the Chavakachcheri Urban Council today to hand over letters to 454 Health Service Assistants.

However the protesters said that they had not been included in the list to receive appointment letters.

Some protesters had poured kerosene oil on themselves during the protest.

The Northern Province Governor’s office said that the event scheduled for yesterday was then postponed.

The Governor had requested those who engaged in the protest to submit their details within 24 hours to see why they had not been included in the list to receive appointments.
