Remanded MP Rishad Bathiudeen brought to parliament

Prison officials have brought the remanded Vanni District parliamentarian and Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Rishad Bathiudeen to parliament this morning for him to attend the parliamentary sittings today.

On the instructions of the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Serjeant-at-Arms of Parliament Narendra Fernando yesterday informed the prison authorities and health authorities to permit MP Bathiudeen to participate in the sittings of Parliament today (22nd) and tomorrow (23rd) at 10am.

The decision was taken by Speaker, following a request made by Party Leaders at the Committee on Parliamentary Business that arrangements should be made for Rishad Bathiudeen to attend the Sittings of Parliament.

Wanni District MP and ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen, who was arrested on October 19 and has been remanded until October 27 by the order of Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. He has been quarantined at the Negombo Pallansena Youthful Offenders Training Centre.
