Sathyagraha campaign held to restore democracy concluded after SC decision

The indefinite Sathyagraha campaign launched by the civil society organizations against President Maithripala Sirisena’s government to protect the Constitution and the Democracy has been concluded.

The continuous ‘Sathyagraha’ held by the Civil Society Organizations and Trade Unions for the past 24 days to protect the democracy and constitution ended yesterday afternoon.

The indefinite Sathyagraha campaign with the participation of Buddhist monks, launched on 21 November at the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo.

The Sathyagraha was concluded following the Supreme Court ruling that the dissolution of Parliament was unconstitutional and illegal.

All religious leaders, Parliamentarians Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rajitha Senaratne, Mujibur Rahuman, Arsu Marasinghe, Karunaratna Paranavithana and Chathura Senaratne were amongst those who participated in the event.
