Special celebration held to mark President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s 50-year long career as a lawyer

A special celebration organized by the legal professionals of Sri Lanka was held Saturday (03) at the Colombo Shangri-La Hotel to mark President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s 50-year-long career as a lawyer.

More than a thousand lawyers from Sri Lanka’s political and various sectors participated in this event.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe and First Lady Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe were received at this occasion by President’s Counsel Ronald Perera.

President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva President’s Counsel Thilak Marapana and President’s Counsel Faiz Mustafa also spoke at the event. President’s Counsel Ronald Perera delivered the welcome speech and Attorney-at-Law Kushan de Alvis made the vote of thanks.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe earned a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ceylon at its Colombo Campus which is now the University of Colombo. After graduation, he completed the law exams at the Ceylon Law College and took oaths as an advocate in 1972.

H. S. Samaratunga, President’s Adviser K P Dayaratne, UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, Navin Dissanayake and the President’s Private Secretary Sandra Perera also were present at the occasion.
