Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission’s Youth Camp 2019 to focus on hate speech

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has organized its second annual Youth Camp for Human Rights at the Hope Auditorium of MAS Athena, MAS Fabric Park Thulhiriya, from 5th to 9th December 2019.

The objectives of the Youth Camp is to sensitize youth leaders of Sri Lanka on the value based on human rights to promote the building of human rights culture in the country and to encourage the youth to be proactive citizens.

This year’s Youth Camp under the theme “Words Hurt: Youth Reflections on Hate Speech” will focus on raising awareness in hate speech that threatens ethnic reconciliation and national security,

The inaugural ceremony will be held on 5th December at 2.00 pm and the keynote speech on ‘Democratic Life: Perceiving the World in a Democratic Way’ will be delivered by Dr Deepika Udagama Chairperson, Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.

The closing ceremony will be held on 9th December. Youth leaders representing all 25 districts have been selected for participation in the event.
