Sri Lanka Navy Officer arrested and remanded over the abduction and disappearance of two Tamil individuals

Sri Lanka Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a Navy Intelligence Officer in connection with the abduction and disappearance of two Tamil individuals in Kotahena in 2009.

The CID arrested Navy Intelligence Officer Lieutenant Commander Sampath Dayananda today over the abduction and disappearance of two Colombo Municipal Council workers Vadivelu Pakkili Sami Loganathan and Rathnasami Paramanandan in Kotahena on the 11th of January in 2009.

Lieutenant Commander Dayananda was arrested when he appeared before the CID yesterday to give a statement regarding the incident.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kesara Samarewakara remanded the officer until tomorrow (25) when he was produced in the court.

The Lieutenant Commander is currently an intelligence officer at the Sampur Naval Camp.

Another suspect of the case, Lieutenant Commander Anil Mapa, has been arrested earlier and released on bail.
