Sri Lanka to get military ships from US and Japan

Sri Lanka is to get military ships from the US and Japan, President Maithripala Sirisena said.

He said that Sri Lankan officials were in the US this week to discuss the deal on the US ship.

The President also said that the Japanese Defence Minister who was in Sri Lanka this week had promised to give two ships.

Meanwhile, the Navy media unit said that the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Kapila Waidyaratne PC and the Commander of the Navy, Vise Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe visited and addressed the Sri Lanka Navy crew onboard Ex – USCGC ‘Sherman’ in Honolulu, Hawaii yesterday (22nd April).

The secretary to the Ministry of Defence inspected the ship and held cordial discussions with the United States Coast Guard authorities with respect to the progress of the acquisition of the Ex-USCGC ‘Sherman’ to the Sri Lanka Navy.
