Tense situation in Sri Lankan parliament as joint opposition interrupts Prime Minister’s statement

A tense situation has arisen in Sri Lanka parliament today when the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe started to deliver a special statement on the bond commission report.

When the Premier was making the special statement regarding the bond issue, the members of the joint opposition holding posters have begun walking into the center of House.

It has been reported that the unruly joint opposition MPs got into a fisticuff with the government MPs creating an utter chaos.

The Speaker has announced that he could not continue and adjourned the sittings for 10 minutes. He also has called an immediate party leaders’ meeting.

The parliament convened a special session today to discuss the Bond Commission report.
