People of the area refused to hand over the encroaching Sinhalese fishermen, who were being detained by the people, to the Sri Lankan Police though they were instructed by the Police to do so. Instead, the people demanded the police to implement their demands.
Meanwhile, Police Superintendent of Kankesanthurai area intimidated the people saying that he would deploy the Special Task Force if those Sinhalese fishermen have been released. Then, as of sudden the police have taken 6 of the Sinhalese fishermen with them. Consequently, tense situation arose due to the conflicts between the people of the area and the Sri Lankan Police. Despite 6 of 8 Sinhalese fishermen could be taken with them by the police, they were unable to take the remaining two Sinhalese fishermen with them. Subsequent to that, other two Sinhalese encroachers have been handed over through the Rev. Father.
It is noted that photos and videos were captured by Police and unidentified as in a manner of intimidating the fishermen of the area.
