Special security arrangements have been made by the security forces including the armed forces, Police and Special Task Force (STF) on Vesak Poya day today, and the next two days for the security of the devotees.
In addition to the security measures taken by the security forces over the past few weeks to protect the public while arresting the terrorists, a security program has been implemented to provide security to all the temples and sacred places where devotees gather.
In addition to the uniformed security officers, plain clothes officers, intelligence officers and intelligence services will continue to provide security to the public.
Civil society organizations, Buddhist societies, companies and institutions, have also volunteered to provide security.
Security forces request the devotees to refrain from taking heavy bags, hand bags and purses other than the items necessary for worship into the temples and other sacred places.
Meanwhile, the public is requested to immediately inform the security units if they observe any suspicious persons or things and assist the security units.
The police say around 5,000 officers have been deployed for traffic control. The Police will not only arrest the drunk drivers but also drunken people near the temples.
The devotees are requested to not to loiter around after observing the religious functions at temples and other places of worship.
