Project to develop Palaly Airport as a regional airport to launch today

Work on the development of the Palaly Airport as an international airport is scheduled to begin today.

The initial plan will be to convert Palaly into a regional airport to service flights to India and thereafter to an international airport with flights to other countries.

Initially the project to develop the airport as a regional airport will be implemented at a cost of Rs. 2 billion.

State Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysinghe says the main objective of developing the Palaly Airport as a regional airport is to launch a regional civil aviation service centered on India in the first week of next month.
