Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 cases rose to 2,153 today with 59 more persons testing positive for the coronavirus, the Health Ministry said.
According to the Health Ministry 56 of the positive cases are inmates from the Drug Rehabilitation Center in East Kandakadu and a counselor at the center has also tested positive.
A returnee from Qatar and a Navy sailor at Poonawa Quarantine Center tested positive for the virus, the Government Information Center said.
According to the Epidemiology Unit report, as of 6 pm Thursday, 163 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals. Another 45 Individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.
Eleven patients have died while 1,979 patients including the Chinese tourist, who was the first COVID-19 case detected in the country in January, have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
