Excavations of the human bones found near the Meenachchi Amman Kovil Road in Pannai, Jaffna was carried out for a second day on Tuesday (August 18).
The bones were first found at the site on the 14th while excavating to lay pipelines along the road.
On the same day, the Jaffna Acting Magistrate V. T. Shivalingam inspected the site, the Jaffna Police said
On Tuesday, the Acting Magistrate, who inspected the site, ordered a further investigation into the incident, police said.
Accordingly, excavations continued Tuesday under the supervision of the Jaffna Magistrate as well as the Jaffna Hospital Specialist Judicial Medical Officer, and teams of Jaffna Police and Archaeological Officers.
According to security forces several pieces of clothing similar to women’s clothing were also found at the scene.
Human bones have been found on several occasions in recent times in various parts of the North, including Jaffna.
