Another suspect has been arrested in connection with placing a parcel of explosives near the Grade one class of Palindanuwara Dikhena Junior School in Baduraliya.
The 31-year-old suspect is the brother of a suspect arrested earlier for placing the parcel containing two locally built bombs and 13 foreign made bombs near the school.
The Police allege that the suspects have planned to place bombs in schools in order to sabotage educational activities in schools throughout the island by creating a fear psychosis that it is not safe to send children to schools after the Easter Sunday attacks.
The Police said that suspect, a resident of Hedigalla Colony in badureliya is being detained at the Colombo Crimes Division and being interrogated.
The security sectors have uncovered that there is an involvement of a politician of the Province behind this act of sabotage of instilling fear in schools throughout the country, the state television ITN reported.
It has been revealed that the hand grenade parcel had been placed with the aim of closing down all schools giving publicity through the media that there is a threat to the security of schools in the area.
Reportedly, the suspect identified as 32 year old Hapuarachchige Pavithra Madushanka, who is believed to have placed the bomb parcel is a person linked to many crimes including murders in the area. He and the watchman of the school are arrested and being grilled.
The Police have begun inquiries for arrest of persons who gave publicity through the public address system announcing that schools in the area have been shut down due to the recovering of a bomb in the school.
