The Army released more land in the North Province in line with a directive issued by President Maithripala Sirisena, the Army media unit said today.
Security Force Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W), in line with the Presidential directive, handed over documents related to the release of 40.74 acres of state lands and 13.64 acres of private lands in the Wanni to the Governor of the Northern Province Dr Suren Raghavan.
As per instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division, representing Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces – Wanni handed over the documents to Dr Suren Raghawan to release 54.38 acres of public and private lands.
All those land patches in the Wanni were used by the Security Forces during the war, the Army said.
