According to security sources, around eighty people, including leading businessmen, who were involved in various illegal activities during the ‘Aragalaya’ (struggle), have fled the country by various means.
The security forces are currently on a special search for these people who have fled abroad, Lankadeepa reported.
The assistance of international security organizations including INTERPOL has also been sought for their arrest.
It has been learnt that some have gone abroad by submitting false information to the embassies claiming that there are various threats.
According to the security forces, a millionaire businessman, who allegedly broke into the President’s House and took selfies and released them on the internet, has fled to Africa after the police started investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, it is also reported that nearly 200 other people involved in the struggle have sought asylum in embassies to go abroad. The police said that they are looking for the arrest of nearly thirty more people in connection with the incidents of trespassing into the President’s House, Temple Trees and the burning and destruction of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s house.
