It has been stated that attempts had been made to erect Buddha statue and a Bo tree at Engineering Faculty of Jaffna located at Ariviyalnagar in Killinochchi on today morning.
A Buddha statue and a Bo tree have already been erected at this place. Following the fierce opposition of the students, the University Administration assured that they would remove the particular Buddha statue and it would be erected at the place allocated for all religious activities at the Engineering Faculty of Jaffna located at Ariviyalnagar in Killinochchi.
Meanwhile, tt has been stated that attempts had been made to erect 2nd Buddha statue at the place allocated for all religious activities at the Engineering Faculty of Jaffna located at Ariviyalnagar in Killinochchi. Students demanded the officials to halt the attempt, intentionally made in the leave days, of erecting the 2nd Buddha statue at the faculty.
Students emphasized that erecting the Buddha statue at the place allocated for all religious activities at the Faculty after being removed from where it was placed earlier would be the impartial decision in this regard.
It should be halted as such religiously discriminatory activities will create unwanted contradictions among the students, according to the demand made by the students of Engineering Faculty of Jaffna University.
