The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed a case in the Colombo High Court today (Jan. 20) against three persons, including former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, alleging that the government had incurred a huge loss by leasing the Modara fishing harbor to a private company for a very small amount in 2014.
The Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed indictments against the then Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Fisheries Harbor Corporation Upali Liyanage and its former Managing Director Nil Ravindra Munasinghe under section 70 of the Bribery Act on five charges.
According to the Bribery Commission, Former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, the first accused, leased the Modara Fisheries Harbor to Sea Gulf UK Pvt.
The Bribery Commission informed the High Court that it hopes to present 17 witnesses and 55 items as case material to prove the indictment against the accused.
