China is ready to work with relevant countries and international financial institutions to continue to play a positive role in supporting Sri Lanka’s response to current difficulties and efforts to ease debt burden, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said.
During the regular press conference yesterday, Lijian said that China has paid close attention to the difficulties and challenges faced by Sri Lanka and had provided help to Sri Lanka’s socio-economic development to the best of its capacity.
“China will continue to support the relevant financial institutions in consultation with Sri Lanka to find tangible solutions, he said.
He made these remarks in response to a question raised over the comment by Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki who urged all countries that lent monetary assistance to Sri Lanka – including China – to discuss the country’s debt restructuring.
