Denying allegations that he had defaulted electricity bills amounting to more than Rs. 600, 000, former state minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said today that the utility bills he had received for his residence included outstanding against the previous occupants, former ministers Richard Pathirana and Athauda Senviratne.
He told Parliament that he had punctually settled his utility bills on time.
He said the electricity bill for his official residence was not even addressed to his name and that the Ceylon Electricity Board had failed to rectify it despite repeated requests.
He said his bill should have been paid by three ministries and that he had written to those ministries to settle them.
The MP said there are several ministers who had outstanding bills and that the CEB General Manager in Colombo does have a list of the defaulters and requested the Speaker to summon him to the Privileges Committee regarding the matter.
