Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena has issued the special gazette notification for extending the Emergency Regulations for another month from today.
“I am of the opinion that by the reason of a public emergency in Sri Lanka, it is expedient, so to do, in the interest of public security, the preservation of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community,” the President said in the gazette notification.
Following the terrorist attacks on 21 April, the President on the 22nd of April issued the Extraordinary Gazette notification stating that the clauses that deal with the Prevention of Terrorism will be brought under Emergency Regulations granting additional powers to security forces.
Sri Lanka Parliament on 24th April approved the implementing Emergency Regulations in the country for a month.
