The report probing telephone records of Easter Sunday bombers – examined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – has been submitted to the CID which will continue further investigations, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court was informed yesterday.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, the CID said the FBI had supported in retrieving vital data from the telephones used by Easter Sunday bombers and that Sri Lanka did not have advanced technology to recover such data.
Foreign investigation teams have agreed to support local examination and appear in court for relevant proceedings. They have provided technical support to the CID.
Samples of the explosive residues at the sites of attack along with blood and hair samples taken from the heads of suicide bombers were among those handed over to foreign investigation teams on a court order.
The CID said the samples were given to the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) and that foreign investigation teams would obtain them whenever they handled the probe.
