The latest Federal Registry released by the US government doesn’t include Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s name, under those who renounced US citizenship by 30 Sept 2019, despite his claims giving up US nationality on May 3, 2019, Minister Harin Fernando said.
Accordingly, Gotabaya Rajapaksa will remain a citizen of the United States and will not be able to function as President even if he is elected into office.
Minister Fernando tweeted that when Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s name was not in the previous quarter report his spokesmen insisted that it will definitely be carried in the 3rd quarter report.
According to Minister Fernando, the 2019 presidential battle has become a struggle between a genuine Sri Lankan and an American citizen.
