Organization of Tamil Patriots in Batticaloa Calls for a hartal urging the closure of Drinking Water Factory that is being constructed at Periyapullumalai in Batticaloa district. Both Tamil National Alliance and Tamil National People’s Front have expressed their solidarity to this protest.
Factory bottling the water getting from the water from Ponds, Ground Water and through Unnichai Irrigation System is going to be opened at Eeravoorpatru, Periyapullumalai in Batticaloa district.
It has been pointed out that people would be worse affected by the operations of this factory that is going to be opened by utilizing acres of lands.
This Drinking water Factory is going to open at this place where scarcity of water resources available to agriculture and drinking. The continuous protests condemning the attempt of opening this Drinking Water Factory at this place have been staging.
Batticaloa district parliamentarian Viyalendran calls for all to give fullest support to this hartal that is going to be observed today.
From the information gained through the Right to Info Act, it has become known that 83 families, 11 GN divisions, 4500 families and more than 15,500 persons will be worse affected by this Factory, he added.
Meanwhile, the construction activities of this factory has been ongoing without any stay order and horticulture and the drinking water source of the people of this area will be worse affected if this Factory is opened at this place, Tharmalingam Suresh, the organizer of the Tamil National People’s Front stated.
