Political Prisoners have stopped their hunger protest temporarily following the assurances given by the TNA parliamentarians Mavai Senathirajah and the representatives of Civil Society.
Representatives of the Civil Society met with the Political Prisoners, who were on hunger protest, yesterday.
Following are stated by Rev.Fr. Sakthivel, the President of the National Movement for the release of Political Prisoners, after this meeting;
“We met with the Political Prisoners who are on hunger protest. They told us that they had demanded the TNA parliamentarians Mavai Senathirajah and Sivamohan, who met them, that they should be released without grouping them and they should be released after the rehabilitation if they cannot be released. They further told us that they were told by the parliamentarians that they hope a favorable response would come when the parliamentarians going to once again put forth the demands of Political Prisoners in a meeting with the President to be held once again an if it fails continuous struggle would be taken forward and budget would be opposed by the TNA parliamentarians. They further told us that they are going to temporarily stop the hunger protest following the assurances given by the TNA parliamentarians. They further emphasized that they would again stage hunger protest if their release is not made possible”
