The Indian community in Sri Lanka has requested the Indian High Commission in Colombo to provide them with the coronavirus vaccine.
Sources said that a number of requests have been put forward to the Indian High Commission in Colombo.
However, sources said that a formal request has not been made to the Sri Lankan Government through the Indian High Commission.
The position of the Indian High Commission has been that such a request cannot be made to Sri Lanka when the vaccines available are for Sri Lankans, sources said.
India had donated a stock of coronavirus vaccines to Sri Lanka and subsequently the government purchased more vaccines from India.
Sri Lanka had in March received 600,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines donated by China.
Just over 2000 Chinese nationals employed in Sri Lanka were vaccinated using part of the donations.
