Without being able to live in the native lands peacefully, we have been living a peaceful life in the midst of heavy raining and hot climate while men and women separately sleep in the nights instead of having family life with privacy. Teary people of Kanchiramottai raised questions asking “Is it good governance? Did we bring the government of good governance for this?”.
While the people of Kanchiramottai belonging to the Vavuniya North Divisional Secretariat have been resettling at their lands after the 28 years, Department of Forest Resuorces have been staging the resettlement of these people.
12 Northern Provincial Councilors headed by C.V.K.Sivanjanam, the chairman of the Northern Provincial Council, have visited Kanchiramottai village yesterday with the intention of taking this issue to the attention of the respective authority after seeing the plight of the people directly. During this visit, the people put forth these demands to the Provincial Councilors. Following are the things that the people told the Provincial Councilors;
“3 persons were abducted from KAnchiramottai in 1983 when the war began. What happened to them is yet to be known. Consequently, we left our village in the 1990s. While we have resettled just 4 months before at our native lands after living in India and several other places in the Northern Province, Department of Forest Resources have been continuously making obstacles in our resettlement. 38 families who have come to resettle at their native lands were provided the semi- permanent houses. Though the funds to build permanent houses have been allocated, the Department of Forest Resources has been making obstacles in making those funds available to us. More than 300 families had been living here before displacing from here. Many of them ae very much eager to return to their native lands. However, they are very much hesitant to return due to fear. We have to live a peaceful life by doing cultivation and building homes in our own lands. Roads are yet to be provided, electricity is yet to be provided and permission to make well is yet to be provided despite almost 4 months finished since we have come to resettle at our native lands. Our children walk 5 km to School and 3 km to hospital. You are pleased to do the needful to give us peaceful life at our native lands.
