Sinhala settlement is being set up by deforesting the forests in Vavuniya North, according to Thurairasa Tamilselvan, the Local Councilor of Nedunkerni. In addition, a big Buddha statue has also been erected in the mid forest.
Sinhala settlement is being set up by deforesting the forests at the Ootrupulam village belonging to the Nedunkerni Pradeshiya Sabha, according to the accusation made by the village people. The attempt of setting up this Sinhala settlement is made at the place belonging to local Tamil people.
Tamils had been living at Ootrupulam village which comes under the Vavuniya North District Secretariat till they were uprooted due to war. Consequently, the village became like a forest.
When the Tamil people who went to do agricultural activities once again, they have seen a big Buddha statue and a Sinhala settlement there. Some Sinhala families got settled there and a monk who got settled there has set up a Buddhist temple there.
While the Tamil people are very much frustrated about the Buddhist temple erected at the premises of Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar temple in Semmalai, the danger of the Ootrupulam village is being taken over is also happening.
