Live hand grenades recovered from Puthukudirippu

Eighteen live hand grenades were recovered at Puthukudirippu in Mullativue in a joint operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police on Thursday evening.

There were 16 SFG type hand grenade and two 75 m type hand grenades.

The Police suspects that the grenades have been buried by LTTE cadres before the conflict came to an end in 2009.

The hand grenades have been handed over to the Police Kilinochchi Camp by Special Task Force Bomb Disposal Squad.

In the meantime the Navy found an explosive cache, during a search operation conducted in the beach area of Erakkandi on Thursday.

The Navy that is on constant alert for the protection of the marine ecosystem managed to find this explosive cache during a search operation conducted in the beach area of Erakkandi. Among the recovered items were; 20 water gel sticks, 04 safety fuses and 02 non electric detonators.

The explosive cache is kept in naval custody for further investigations.
