Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has officially assumed duties at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo this morning (18).
Rajapaksa has not assumed duties at the Opposition Leader’s Office before since the previous Opposition Leader, TNA MP R. Sampanthan has not handed over the office until recently after the change in the government last month.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on January 08 informed Parliament that former president and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Kurunegala district parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the Leader of the Opposition.
Following the Speaker’s affirmation, Mr. Sampanthan conceded the post and Mahinda Rajapaksa assumed duties as the Opposition Leader today at the auspicious time of 8:45 a.m.
